to register a car it first has to be complience plate.
so hence how can you have a car registered in 03 when it wasnt complied till 04.

id check that up if i were you.

i thought that might be the case. if so i might have an 04 on my hands instead of an 03:dance:

I don't think it can be registered until it has been complied. The build date could be 03 but compliance might be 04. The big question was it bought new?

ex-demo... had 13,000 on the clock. if the build date was 03 and complience 04 should it not be registered 04?

um, it should be complianced plated before registered.

My Astra also ex demo and is build NOV 03, Complianced FEB 04 and 1st reg AUG 04.

i think with the 04 models of the old TS series some are classified as MY03 and others as MY04 so its possible Vic Roads or Holden may have entered wrong information when registering your car. I would consult both VicRoads and Holden as you may struggle to get rwc etc...

just means its built in 2003 and complianced in 2004.

happens all of the time.

built in 2003, arrives in Australia in 2004 and holden puts the '2004' compliance plates on when it arrives or prior to selling it.

no matter what the dealers tell you, it will be valued as a 2003 model.

oh, Vicroads will treat it as a 04 model.

I don't think that's entirely correct, a car DOES NOT get registered to correspond with it's build year, it gets registered with the year corresponding to when it's first sold....and the compliance date should always be before it's first sold.

True build date will vary from compliance dates with imported cars, sometimes there are years of difference eg: my Calibra -

Build date: July 1995
Compliance date: December: 1998
Registered date: February 1999 ( I have the very last Cali sold in Oz. :) )

A Compliance date should always preceed the registered date as it is done BEFORE the car is sold and registered to the first owner.

I would check to see what's happened in your case - looks suss to me, but maybe someone's just stuffed up, or for some reason something was wrong with the car and it had to be re-processed

The dealer buggered up the initial Rego Gav and told VicRoads it was a 2003 model. But as someone said, people will look at the build date and classify the MY via that not the compliance date.

ok i called vic roads and was told that.....

it was built in december 2003.... making it a 03 model.
complienced in 05/2004 meaning it was stamped to meet aust complience standards on this date.
first registered 07/2004.... dosent make it an 04 model.

build date is your model year.

That all sounds ok and well - the dates add up and make sense.

However on your rego sticker then, it should say '04 and this is what insurance companies usually go by.....so for insurance purposes it'll be recognised as a '04 :)

Like I've previously stated my Cali is '95 build date and first registered '99, it is insured as a '98 Cali, ( this because they have no listing for '99 registered Calibras - mine is the only one ), otherwise it would have been insured as a '99 Calibra :)

Yeh, still don't know what's happened there......

For the rego to say '03 this means it was first sold in '03.

But then how it was complied in '04 after it was road registered is the big question.....if you really want to know you'll have to investigate it.

Try putting the question the the RTA as they have all the records on the car.

They will also tell you if the car has ever been written off or had to be re-registered.

You can also contact GMH head office (this is what I did with my Cali) and ask them to give you a record print out of the cars movements, right from the point that it arrived in the Country - from ship landed date to the date and dealer it was first delivered to and they will also have a record of it's complied date.....see if it all matches up.
