actually it could be any astra coupe with the widebody kit...

seen more than a few like that, i love it, if they brought the coupe out here i would have one, with that kit :D... but they didnt :(

It is in fact the road version of the V8 DTM Astra G coupe as mentioned above.....!!!

Only one car was ever made - red one.

I've got heaps of pics and literature of this car on my home PC.

The kit has been copied by other people, they would be the few you've seen fitted to various Astra coupes in Europe.

300+ kw from a 4litr V8..

begs the question why holden was getting 300 from a 5.7ltr??

Wraith
16th January 2007, 12:20 PM
It's a completely different class of V8 engine, more high tech to it and if it ever went into production, this would be reflected in it's cost !!!

The GM Chev 5.7ltr has been N/A tuned to over 350kw, by car makers in the states like Callaway and others, it can go even higher, it all comes down to costs.

Base engine as we have it, is purely for mass production and low cost and minimum of maintanance, with maximum longevity and maximum economy - That's why ! ;)

i kinda figured it'd be a cost thing.. would still love to see HSV produce a genuine supercar tho..

picture it..

2 door commo..

mid 6litre engine..

4wd system..

500kw+..

it's what dreams are made of..

Wraith

That's exactly what I'm waiting for.............

BUT, it'll never feature mid-mounted engine, that's a total ground up re-design and new platform.

However, 4 wheel drive 2 door and 500kw are all do-able !!!

Forced induction (for petrol engines) is becomming more and more accepted and common place with OE manufactutrers - BMW also is now in the game, Walkinshaw Performance have started rolling the dice with the VXR Monaro, hopefully this will spill off to GMH.

If not, just give me a VE 2 door 4x4 and I'll do the rest - heaps of good forced induction kits out there to choose from :)

It was built and priced from the very beginning to compete in the supercar category.

Structure had it's fair share of exotic materials make up.

Power and performance stats are still impressive today.

Don't know how many people would have paid that much for a 'souped up' Opel Astra though

basically a 2 door sedan.. but oh so much sexier..

Exactly right, the reason why it's so much sexier is because it features the old Calibas 'top end' :)

Like I've mentioned in another thread, the Astra G coupe is a merging of the Astra G sedan and the Calibra.....

Astra G Coupe is an Astra G Cabriolet with a solid steel "fastback" roof. Both designed and put together by Bertone.
Only the front guards, lights and bonnet, and mechanicals/interior are shared with the run-of-the-mill Astras. Every panel from the windscreen pillars back is unique to either the Coupe or Cabrio.

And the sedans bootlid also.

Your are right, my bad up above, should've said it's a merging of the G vert body, not the sedan and the Cali's upper roof section :)
