Hey everyone,
I know most of you have fancy trip computers which tell you stuff need to know, but mine doesn't. Was hoping someone could inform me how you work out your L/100km manually. Only cuz i get curious sometimes

Or easier, just fill ur tank to full, run to pretty much empty (dont get stuck anywhere LOL) and fill up, divide the litres filled by the distance travelled, then times the total by 100!!! Ive been doing this every time i fill up since i got my 1st car, quite sad really!!

Eg. travelled 600km, filled 48L

48/600=0.08
0.08x100=8

=8l/100km

thats how i work it out. i know that after a year of travelling my astra uses between 7.6 and 7.9 l per 100 k, as most of my driving is freeway :D

Thank god we have cars that tell us this all now, thats far too much mathematics for my liking! :)

seen mine hold as low as 5.7l per 100km while doing 100kph on the highway..

goes off the scale (more than 40l per 100) when flooring it tho :(

when i had mine the top number i could ever get was 39.9l/hundred. didnt think it could go above that.

my subaru forester gt with wrx turbo and intercooler running 12psi gets about 10.3l/hundred. not as good as the astra but love the car heaps more!! want a forester xt!!!!

Hey everyone,
I know most of you have fancy trip computers which tell you stuff need to know, but mine doesn't. Was hoping someone could inform me how you work out your L/100km manually. Only cuz i get curious sometimes

1. Next time you fill up zero your trip-meter.
2. When you fill up after that note how many liters you have put in.
3. Note the distance on the trip meter.
4. L/100km = 100/(distance travelled/litres used)

Nice thing about a diesel is that even when I am thrashing it I am getting about 6.5/100

While we are here an interesting question is how does your trip-computer compare to the manual calc? Mine is underestimating my average consumption by about 0.5l/100...so I think they tend to be a bit optimistic.

Paying attention to your fuel consumption gives you a good indication of whether everything is running OK or not. I have always watched mine over the years. Worst i have ever done was around 40L/100km but that was a day spent lapping Eastern Creek. The same car also did Syd-Mel on one tank.

Im getting between 8-9L/100km, thats about 500km per tank, Not alot compared to all these small cars, and even V6!
Im driving a 2.2 Astra.
