I wasn't aware they were on sale yet, but you can build and price one already on the Holden website http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/vehicleentry?modelid=26010. Starting from $29,900 for the manual.
Seems an odd price point, exactly the same as the CDTi. Even with the 17" wheels, body kit and leather seats, I think the CDTi represents better value (especially since some dealer are advertising them for $26,990).
Not to mention, that the CDTi has the same KW output but 110Nm more torque. Seems to me that the SRi will be the "look at me" option in the AH Astra range...

does the 5 door sri come fitted with the turbo motor? or is it just a sporty version of the stocko

I personally think the CDTi represents excellent value when put up against all the other semi-luxury small diesel hatches.

The Sri 5 door is just the 2.2L version... like the 3dr SRi 2.2l we have in the G

and the 2.2L will also be available in the Astra H 3dr version :) - looks like the Astra H family is growing :)

i'm about to sign a deal for a black CDTi demo (about 2,000km) for $28,990.00 including those gorgeous 18" five spoke alloys ($2,000 RRP on Holden's site). there's stamp duty about $1,000.00 and rego on the top of that, but still a great deal imho.

i agree, the CDTi must be the best performance car for the money! it would "massacre" any other car this side of $35,000. don't believe me? get one for a test drive, run it hard 400-500km and then have a look at the BC that tells you it took 6.5L/100km for all that fun :)

Wait a minute... that seems like nearly normal retail to me and you are getting a used car!

Really? let me see.... $29990 + $1450 (dealer delivery) + $1500 (stamp duty) + $2000 (18" alloys) = $34940

And dieselhead is paying $28,900...
Without getting too mathematical here.... id say thats a saving of around $6000. And thats if its a manual, if its auto, then he is saving $8000. Not quite what I would call pocket change or peanuts.

His post said

$29K + stamp duty ($1000) +rego (whatever that is). Sounds like 30K+.

You can get a NEW CDTI on the road for that.

you are right rjastra, you get a new on road dti for $30k, but not with 18" alloys.
however, it is absolutely insane what Holden is charging for those rims: $2,000 + 4 X $350 + fitting = $3,400!!! they would not sell them without tyres either. and you have to leave the stock 16" alloys there, too! that's almost twice more than a decent aftermarket set. wait, if you sell the stock alloys with tyres for a few $$$ you get a new set of larger wheels for peanuts, hehehe
no way i will pay that much, so i'm afraid i will bin the whole deal... without the 18"ers the car would be cca $28.5k including onroads. i'm sure there are better deals out there. still, even at that price, there is $4,500 saving from the RRP + onroads.
i will keep on diggin', i know me car is there somewhere, waiting...

now give me a black coupe with 18" and a mad, mad diesel ticker, cuz no available petrol engine has the torque i need :)

I agree (I have one)...if you can live with the Diesel rattle at idle...that I have grown to like, surprisingly, it's comforting, reminds me of sitting on a bus...it's same kW 110, but 320 Nm instead of the SRi 210, that's another 110 Nm! ... torque curve = acceleration curve :)

and as pointed out above...economy. I am getting 5.7 l/100 km now.

320Nm = about what my Polo Gti now puts out ;)

wow, 320Nm-that's some tough Polo u've got there rjasta! :) what have you done to pump it up 100Nm from stock?

here's how a not so stock astra DTi accelerates to 200km/h: http://youtube.com/watch?v=eWnz8Y-rYvQ

Had the ECU reprogrammed.

110kw to 152kW
320Nm

Best money I ever spent.

not sure this is quite topic, but since we compared the SRi to the DTi... i ordered today a black manual DTi, $30k drive away with tint, rubber mats (ready for filthy petrol stations) and... 18" alloys, you know, the five spoke ones as seen on the Turbo Coupe :) the alloys were an expensive $2,700 option, but hey, do they grip and look great or what?
how much bang for buck is that? a Golf with the same specs would cost a hefty $8-9k extra!

the brand new beauty will be all mine in January

rubber mats (ready for filthy petrol stations) and...

I have found that diesel pumps at some stations are always greasy/messy and at others squeaky-clean. I noticed an attendant cleaning the pumps at my favorite so it obviously comes down to maintenance.

Also note that not all stations have narrow-neck nozzels on the diesel pumps. That means you can't fill up as the Astra has a flap in the neck that prevents you dribbling it in...

My solutions.

1. For emergencies - I am carrying a plastic funnel.
2. I am carrying wet-ones and some paper towel (there's a elastic strap in the boot for the euro emergency triangle, so it's clipped in there).

But since I have worked out what stations are good, it's been no different to petrol really...and you will be getting 800-1000 km per tank so you tend to visit them less often anyway.
