I was reading here about the new 2.2 engines...

http://www.thegarage.com.au/news_show.php?subaction=showfull&id=1162040107&archive=&start_from=&ucat=3

I see they are 110 kw/215 Nm, the 1.9 in the CDTi is 110 kw/320 Nm

given the pricing is -

Astra SRi 3-Door Coupe (manual) $30,490
Astra SRi 3-Door Coupe (automatic) $32,490
Astra SRi 5-Door Hatch (manual) $29,990
Astra SRi 5-Door Hatch (automatic) $31,990
Astra CDTi 5-Door Hatch (manual) $29.990
Astra CDTi 5-Door Hatch (automatic) $31,490

...so why would you go for the 2.2 over the 1.9 CDTi?

u wouldnt, next thing to remember is, there is more of a chance that the 1.9L cdti will be easier to flash/tune in the not too distant future :D.
we still have major issues with the 2.2L.

You can already import a Green tuning box from the UK which is plug and play and it takes the 1.9 CDTI upto 140KW

mmmmmmm nice and sooty

there you go, thats my point exactly :).
and being a turbo deisel, it has a lot of room for improvement in the chip side.

There's some info on the Vic forums for TDi remapping.

I believe something like 145kw and 405mn ATFW.......very nice :)

The question is however which one - 1.9TDi or 2.0T
