Very tasteful back. I quite like it. The boot doesn't look out of place when the roof is up, unlike the Peaugot. That just doesn't look right IMO.

Now iirc the AH is simply a new body on the TS chassis - is this the same story with the convertible?

WOOOHOOO :)

It's finally landed has it ?

I've got my eye on this baby, I'll wait for the turbo - despite no word of it ATM, I believe Holden will bring it over - fingers crossed

New Astra Twintop & SRI Models Debut At Australian International Motor Show

GM Media
26 October 2006
www.media.gm.com

Holden today revealed two exciting new Astra models at the 2006 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The Astra TwinTop retractable hard top convertible and sporty SRi five-door hatch made their Australian debuts on the Holden show stand. Both vehicles, and a new SRi three-door coupe, will be on sale in December.

All three models are driven by a 2.2-litre direct injection four-cylinder ECOTEC engine which produces 110kW of peak power and 215Nm of peak torque.

The engine is the first Astra engine to offer variable high-pressure direct fuel injection, enhancing its efficiency compared with multi-point fuel injection systems.

The new releases confirm the AH Astra line-up as one of Australia’s most comprehensive small car ranges. Astra is Holden’s second biggest selling carline behind Commodore.

Holden's Small Car Marketing Manager, Teresa Basile, said there was now an Astra to suit almost everybody.

“Astra has been a very successful nameplate for Holden and we’re confident that the addition of these three new performance models will enhance its popularity,” Ms Basile said.

“The releases are a direct response to the growth in the premium small car market and target an emerging segment of small cars buyers with specific needs.

"The new models deliver European styling, more performance and the balanced handling for which Astra is renowned. Combined with a high level of specification and competitive pricing, we believe they will be a hit in the small car segment.”

Astra TwinTop

The TwinTop brings retractable hard top technology to the small convertible market at an accessible price.

Available in either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, this cutting-edge European import is two cars in one - changing from a sporty coupe to a stylish convertible in just 30 seconds.

The stunning TwinTop has a three-piece retractable hard top allowing the roof to fold tightly, ensuring the rear of the car remains space efficient and in perfect proportion.

A functional and stylish vehicle, it has the ability to seat up to four people and boasts 205 litres of storage space when the roof is open and 440 litres when the roof is closed.

As a secure coupe, the Astra TwinTop offers passengers a quiet interior with suppressed wind noise – a disadvantage often associated with soft top convertibles.

Both models come equipped with a standard six-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, sports chassis pack, semi automatic climate control, leather heated seats and a lower sports body kit.

These features are complemented by advanced safety features such as driver, front passenger, front side impact and curtain airbags. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control and the acclaimed crash avoidance system Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) are also standard.

Waiting to see it in the flesh and have a decent drive before I pass final judgement.

Still think it looks much too Peugeotish . . .

Now . . . the BMW 3 Cabrio (http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story/F88BB7133416F50BCA2572120003C4C3?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,bmw%203is) another storey all together!!! Will be here early 2007.

it looks a lot more like the Renault Megane CC than the Peugeot 307 CC. the 307 is just a mass of bulbous metal, i don't find it very appealing at all.

The SRiT was $36,990 and the SRi 2.2i $28,065, so a fair bit of a difference.

Yeah, could be a bit of that also. Just don't think I like the big backside on any of these folding solid roof cabs.

It would appear that I also need to serve myself a hearty helping of humble pie . . . I see the 2.2 is being re-introduced in the AH Astras. Sorry to all, I stand corrected!

I like the fack that the NA sri has leather but then again that would be a hard one to explain why the model lower would have a leather interior

Red AH SRI T

Which lower model has it?

Its an Option, not standard, on the CDX remember ;)

It looks like value for money the SRi NA will sh!t all over the Mazda SP23!

Hi Pauly, it's a serious consideration for the missus's next car :)

So mod wise I probably won't be allowed to touch it so much....but with 3 (yes that's THREE) sets of 20inch wheels which will fit on 5 stud Opels, I would think she'd let me bang a set on the twin top - would look awesome

As for myself, I'm gonna hang n see if Holden do a 2 door VE, I reckon they will and agree with Ian (Imay) the new 3 series Beemer verts are HOT, I'm waiting to see what the new M3 vert will be like.....apparantly the M3 will be a hard top whilst the standard variants will retain the fabric top - very interesting

Everything else was like the CDX though, so it looks like they have done a mix and match just like the Diesel.

i really dont underrstand the only front power window **** ay, cos kids go in the back seat right, but with manuel windows you cant stop any one from winding them down, but u can with the lecy one. I realy think it is a safety issue. is all round electrics an option ?
