definiately...in europe is aimed at VW Jetta and Ford Focus...

i have just got my latest information form the Polish Opel factory from Gliwice (where our Australian Astra TS was made) and the Astra H Sedan will be shown at the recent Istanbul (Turkey) Motor Show purely because the sales of 4 door models are approximately 67% of car sales comparing to for eg. 15% in Poland and only 7% in western Europe (4 door sedans in Astra class)

but the freshest news i have is that the Opel plant at Gliwice already has the prototypes of the chassis and other panels for Astra H sedan and the factory line is winding up the production of the Opel Meriva (will be built in Spain now) and are getting ready to start the production of the Astra H Sedan in May 2007.

the Astra h sedan will be sold in fall\autumn 2007...no news about sales in Australia yet...

Astra H sedan body is based on the Astra H station wagon (4618 mm in length, 1754 mm in width and 1458 mm in high). It will have a boot space of 500 Litres.
Apparently it will be equipped with two petrol and two diesel engines versions...

that's all i know so far.

Quite classy, but definitely needs to be introduced to the road more, and is in need of some side skirts etc... but pleasing to the eye :)

I love it, lets hope it does come to Australia, cos I will hold off replacing my TS until then. One good thing is I did read that the Polish line can build LH and RH drive vehicles, hence the TS Classic coming from that line into Australia at the time. So considering that, Australia would be mad to miss out selling such a smart looking and sellable vehicle.

Now lets hope if it does it has the updated 103kw 1.8L engine, and a temperature guage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it is a goer here I would go to my dealer and give them a down payment today.

holy smokes, with a ride height like that, they must be trying to challenge sales for the Captiva

It's the big wheels, with 16s it's going to look quite nice.

Thanks for the heads-up...

Starts to look like any other nice car as a sedan. The hatch at least has some 'cool'...however I would like to see more of these on the streets.

That last pic is a bit wierd, looks like they all just got run over :)

I was surfing around on the weekend and came accross a story regarding the new 2007 Astra sedan to be built in Poland. This was an Australian site and the question was asked to Holden if or when it was coming to Australia.

The Holden spokesman said" it is unlikely to be coming to Australia".

I was really disappointed, after reading about the new model I was planning ahead for it to be the replacement for my bog standard TS sedan in a couple of years time.

I fired off a non too impressed email to Holden, which as usual came back with the standard " we cant please everybody all the time" type of reply, "thanks for writing we will file it etc...."

Now I know a lot of you on this site couldnt give two hoots if a sedan came, as you probably regard it as a too conservative anyway, prefering the hatch to modify and look more sporty. However not all Astra owners are like that, and I would like to think that other Astra owners may also send a message to Holden that they would like to see the sedan version come to Australia. The more they get, the more they may reconsider hopefully.

No doubt I will get some smart alec comments to this request, so be it.....

I'd love to see it, it looks like a real alternative to the Mazda 6 and VW Jetta.

Perhaps if a bunch of people went to Holden HQ and did some sort of interpretive dance, like in the pics above, Holden might see the issue from another perspective...

Looks very impressive to say the least im liking it but thinking the genral wont have enough room in its fleet to slot it in..pitty id say it will sell nice body lines.

we got 4 body shapes in the TS i figure HOldne have just done this again with the same thinking with the Ah.

Yes it dose look nice, but the question is would it sell?

I personaly wouldnt buy it cos it has to many doors, but my mum on the other hand might. Different market.

i've haven't been a big fan of the TS sedans, but this model - the AH sedan looks very nice.

should b put a strong competition against the likes of VW, Renault.

its a pity holden has no plans to bring it here

I'm a dedicated hatch-back man myself (something about pert bottoms...mmm maybe too much infomation...)

BUT

This is a very good sedan conversion. I would think, with a diesel engine of course, that it would be able to take on the Jetta and kick the freckle out of it. Looks at least as good as the Mazda 3 sedan, the best I've seen until now.

Well at least there seems to be some support for the introduction of the sedan into Australia from the forum members. Even if you aren't into the sedan as a body shape, I think the more Opel's we have in Oz the better for the longivity for the marque.

There is no doubt it would sell more than enough numbers. Some of the other versions of the Astra currently and shortly available in Australia are aimed at the specialised end of the market, both in price and build, so going on sedan sales in the TS range, it would more than be worthwhile.

So peoples, even if you arent interested in it, show some support for the marque to have plenty of continuing strength in Australia and EMAIL HOLDEN about it.....
