Hey guys. I have a 04 Astra CD Sedan. It has 21,000km on the clock. I have been getting in around 7.3--7.6L/100 but this week i hit a new low. 6.97L/100km running on Shell 95 Premium Unleaded.

I was just wondering what sort of figures other owners are getting??

***edit All figures are a combination of spirited City/Highway driving.

on the highway, from canberra i get 5.7L/100km. however on the way to canberra i get around 6.7L/100.
not sure how much i get in the city as my driving is split between city and highway. but id say i average aroudn 8L/100KM each week.

these Z18Xe or X18Xe are high compression engines (10.5:1) and should run with a octane rating of 95+. Also after doing some reading and reseach running either 98 or 100 octane doesnt make any difference. so stick to 95 and youll be right.

Ahh ok, that would explain why it does run better on premium than regular, and i would hope its better for the environment too.

yeah i have run Mobil Premium 8000, BP 95, BP Ultimate, Shell 95 and Mobil 6000 aswell as a variety of Regular Unleadeds from Shell, BP and Mobil.

I found on regular unleaded i get higher figures of around 7.6-7.8L/100.

All the 95 RON fuels i get constant figures around 7.0-7.3, and on the full strength Premium 98 RON ones i get about the same as 95. BP Ultimate the car runs fantastically, but same economy as 95 for 4cents less.

I get about 6.3/100 1.4 C , and i wouldnt say i drive like a granny at all. I do live on Perth outskirts and It is a good run into the CBD even if i only do it once a tank if that but is deffinatly not like i am bumper to bumper traffic on a dayly basis

Geez the lowest ive ever got was 7.1l/100km and thats was on the way from Melbourne to Adelaide!!! I average about 8-9l/100km and most my driving is on the freeway, i think the 1.8l struggles at 100kmh; it revs very high (3000rpm)! Then again your car has 21000km mine has 118000km!!! Im also never really driving slow :P!!!

worst economy would be me  around 180kms - 220kms per tank on 100 octane

considering what you've got, you'd be pretty happy with that right?

you would most probs get a extra 50kms if you removed the 250 kilo system from your boot :D

I average about 9.5l which includes some running hard on the M1 and some fringe Brisbane city driving from the 3.2l, but always run it on Premium Unleaded, as I have been told never any lesser grade fuel. So a tank of fuel gets me about 480 - 520km.:) and I am happy with that, considering I always accelerate hard... is there any other way?:D

hehehe thats so true

I got 8.5 in mine on the last tank... but i've had a lot of hard starts, and changing no lower than 4500rpm.

250-300 a tank on 95 for me when im a led foot, and about 500-600 with a combination of takeing it easy and being a led foot.

best was 800 on cruise control with a tank of bp ultimate :)

That was all highway, i made it from the south side of brissy to biloela on a full tank and had just under a quarter left.

Its the same as my friends old vk, stop start kills it and see's very crap fuel economy and all highway cruiseing gets extreemly good economy.

Though i can make it to the coast and back plus a bit of site seeing on 1/4 of a tank and it takes her a full tank to do the same, go figgure.

Im tired so i apolagise if im rambling **** or makeing speeling mistakes.

Well at 4:14am, who wouldn't be tired...?
I've gotten 750km out of mine. Driving from Melbourne to Wollongong, highway all the way. On average its between 450-500 (spirited driving included).

I get about 9-10 litres of fuel per 100 km's mainly and I thought that was pretty high for a stock Holden Astra Turbo. It costs about $60 to fill up and I get around 450km's per tank.

I would have thought for a newer car and it being a 4 cylinder I would get more. And if I ever do floor it, I can actually see the fuel gauge go down, so I try not to do that to much :(

PaulyJ

For an NA 4cyl yeah... but dont forget that you have a snail sitting on your exhaust manifold...
But you should be getting a little less than that, i agree.

Wow guys,
and I was pi$$y with my V6 Vectra getting 600Ks to a 60L tank, I have spent some money (Exhaust,K&N filter, etc, etc) and now I am getting around 700Ks to a tank, I think that equates to around 7.9-8.2L/100K. I have found also; to confirm Daves comment; that BP Ultimate does run better and I get slightly better economy, and most of my crew run Ultimate for those very reasons. I am a lead foot and have been since I was first able to reach the pedals on my pushy! just as a side question, How many litres in a Astra tank?

How many litres in a Astra tank?

Astra G 1.8 is 50L i believe!

AstraTurbo03
4th October 2006, 11:21 AM
In a Astra Turbo 03 it says 52L.

By the way, does buying a K and N filter help with fuel consumption ?

Also what is one of these ? :o As I have heard a lot about them since joining this forum

Yes, my last Veccy was the same, but the current one, well she's a heavy beast and the fuel consumption shows:eek: The price we pay for progress:confused: Would not get rid of her though:cool:

k&n are just after market air filters which allow more air flow. however they also allow most "crap" into the engine aswell.

k&n : more airflow - more dirt/dust
orignal air filter" : less airflow - great dust filtering.

its debatable whether buying a k&n filter decrease fuel consumption. personally i dont think it does. its all in a persons head. however what is know, is that it makes the engine sound much better

yeah I dunno if it does help with fuel consumption but I have seen an improvement with all the things I have done so maybe it plays a small part but I dunno???? I love my Vectra and I wouldn't swap her for a Kings Ransom! Thanks for the answer guys was curious about the Astra tank size, they are pretty much the same then! Cheers

It would be intersting to see what other holden Astra Owners get out of a full tank, cause maybe mine isn't running right ? This week I'm lucky to get 450km's out of a full tank of Shell Optimax, filled right to the top, and current fuel consumption rate is 9.2L and I have just under 1/4 of a tank left :(

Yeah, I am absolutely wrapped with the fuel economy of my Astra. I drive the wheels off it 90% of the time and it gets above exceptional economy..... i wasnt complaining at all... im actually quite suprised. I work in the city(melbourne) so it sees daily duties in there and home every day.

Yeah im pretty sure it has a 52L tank, it says in the owners manual anywayz.

Hmmmm yeah must be because of the low mileage on your car and the high mileage on mine!!! Oh well my car still has way better economy than any of my previous cars thats for sure!!!!

I've change yesterday, so hopefully I get a few more k's out of it this time on a full tank.

G'day all,

Best I've seen at Freeway speeds would be 4.8 l/100km. Generally I average 5 - 5.5 l/100km. Best I ever got out of a tank was just over 1150km. Did an economy run once and averaged 4.2 l/100 km. Should do better with another 10,000 km on the engine.

In case you havn't guessed, I've got a CDTi turbo diesel.

Cheers.

Simple fact at why diesels are so superior to petrol versions!!! :) Performance wise a CDTi would be better than the petrol equivalent too!!! That economy is spectactular!!!

mintaka

Performance is much better than the petrol version xplosv57, that's half the reason I got it. The VRx turbo would beat me in a straight line, but I would love to see what would happen in a hill climb. But for everyday driving it's more than quick enough.

Combine that with the economy, and I'm one happy chap.

Astra 2.2 manual convertible running on 98 Shell/BP with 18inch silica tyres pumped to 40psi - most city driving - average is around 8.5 - best (rare) is around 7.8.

Drove a Sante Fe diesel 5 speed auto - pushed the cr ap out of it and it averaged 9.5 acording to trip computer - not bad for a tank.

Hehe "high mileage"

Hmm well if anyone's interested I usually get around 6.9L / 100km home <-> Canberra (~40min highway, 15min "city" traffic [note Canberra :p])
Home -> Glenrowan (after 1 or 2 trips into canberra) earlier this year I got 6.4L / 100km, and Glenrowan -> albury via st kilda I got 6.7L / 100km...
This is from a SOHC 1.6 that has done more than 170,000 km so maybe there isn't much to compare here?

Oh all on 95 btw

Same here (I have a CDTi manual) I get about 5.2 l/100 with 1600 km on the engine.

I am never going back to petrol, all that power/torque and such fantastic fuel economy :)

mintaka - what's your idle speed, mine sits on the first tick below 1000 rpm...seems a little high to me,

I have noticed a change since having the new exhaust. When they removed the stock they were surprised to see how bloody clean it was! After six years! They made a comment about my car running too rich which is not surprising, I was lucky to get 300kms out of a tank.

My latest feat was 602kms out of a full tank on 98% octane.

averaged 9.2 L / 100km over 23,000 km in my AH auto wagon. never left the Adelaide metro area yet. oh, and my right foot is quite heavy :)
